WHAT IS SCRAPBOOKING?
Scrapbooking is a visual record of our lives, our memories and our journey. It is a method of preserving our personal and family history and gives our future generations a creative and valuable look into our past.

 

Many of us remember saving (and still do) cinema and rail tickets, notes, special birthday cards and messages, postcards, tags, artwork and photographs – some simply glued this memorabilia into traditional grey scrapbooks with diary notes or journaling next to them. (I still have a simple book with dark grey pages containing photographs, notes and hospital paraphenalia from my first daughter’s birth). Things have moved on a little since then.

Modern scrapbooking takes all of these principals and elements and combines them creatively using card stock, patterned paper, ribbon and embellishments, into scrapbook pages, albums and photobooks. By creating these albums, we are ensuring the preservation of our stories and the details attached to the photographs we treasure.

WHAT WE DO

The Scrapbooker specialises in designing and crafting beautiful, high quality custom made scrapbook pages and albums. We take your photographs, memorabilia and words and craft scrapbook pages (layouts) using archive quality cardstock, papers and embellishments and place them into beautiful albums for you to gift or treasure yourself for future generations.

WHAT SORT OF THINGS CAN I PUT IN THEM?

Scrapbooks are incredibly personal items and are therefore incredibly flexible in content. Here are a few ideas of pages and albums that we could create for you but it is worth bearing in mind that everyone’s perspective of what’s important and meaningful in their lives may not be the same as the next.

Weddings : Have your entire day’s story told for you in a beautiful album. Details of the lead up to the big day, the preparations and the photos taken by other guests all hold a wealth of stories and memories and would be a perfect partner to your traditional wedding album.

Anniversaries : For your own anniversary or for someone close to you. Photos of the couple throughout the years and of various extended family members, holidays and special occasions is a perfect way to archive their lives. Anniversary scrapbook albums are a perfect present for family members to group gift to a couple who do not need or want another piece of cut glass! We designed one for fashion blogger Priyanka Gill to gift to her husband on their 10th Wedding Anniversary.

Landmark birthdays : Our 21st, 40th, 50th, 60th, even our 70th birthdays and beyond, all represent landmarks in our lives. A unique personalised scrapbook album is a perfect gift to give as a family. Group gifting a scrapbook album takes away the headache of what to buy a family member as each person contributes photos and memories and pays for their own scrapbook page within the album. Here’s a sample of an album we created for Penny Raphaely for her husband’s 70th birthday.

Holidays : Be it your annual holiday, your honeymoon or surprise birthday get-aways – a beautiful scrapbook album is the answer to preserve your memories and photos (even your memorabilia!) of your trip. Albums can be about just one trip or contain pages of holidays taken over the years. (This can be added to over the years).

Baby Albums : These are a perfect way to start documenting your child’s life. A Baby album allows you to not only archive the photos but to add those all important stories of the birth, early days, first tooth, walking, eating, places they went and people they met and growth and development notes.

Heritage Albums : Heritage albums are a way of connecting with and preserving your past  and can even include family trees. So get those fading old photos out of those albums and into a protective heritage album your children and your grand children will love to look at in years to come.

Leaving or retirement present for work colleagues : What a welcome change a scrapbook album would be from the usual whip-round when someone is leaving or retiring, especially someone who has been working in your workplace for many years. A scrapbook album filled with photos from your time together, memories from work colleagues and friends and details of their achievements would make a fabulous Group gift. Here’s a digital scrapbook we designed for Sir Al Aynsley Green on his retirement from his post of Children’s Commissioner at 11Million.

Just because : Albums don’t have to be about any one particular occasion in life. It is the little things, experienced or said every day that can be so easily forgotten. It is these little moments in life that are the true stars of the show when it comes to scrapbooking. They also allow you the total freedom to document (or ‘scrap’) the ‘everyday’ in any order you choose. An album full of everyday, unrelated pages is diverse and wonderful to browse through, surprising you everytime you look at it. You can add to these albums as and when needed too!

A few ideas …

• Funny conversations you have with your children (or overhear your children have with other kids) can make fantastic reading in later years. So get that notebook out and start jotting down their funny sayings, conversations and even their jokes!
• What amazes you/what you love or admire about your children, partner, family members, work colleagues – whoever is important to you.
• Daily routines – give your future generations an insight into what life was like now!
• Relationships – children, grandparents, friends, partners, cousins
• School life and graduations….. by event or by year..
• Your love of a particular pet- they are, after all, one of the family!
• Personal achievements or the achievements of a family member or friend. These could include sport, music, theatre, dance, art or even getting the job they always wanted or recovering from an illness – the list here is endless.
• ‘Just because’ – there are many pages in my albums that are there just because I love the photo or the quote or the saying. These pages can showcase your photographic skills or can be an excuse to highlight a quote that is particularly relevant to your life.
• Showcasing your work – a scrapbook album can be a great way for you to showcase all kinds of work – arts and crafts, textile & clothing, design work, inventions, essays, research – the list here is endless too!

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

The length of time it takes to complete an album depends entirely on the number of photos you want to incorporate and therefore the number of pages in the album. One page can typically take between 1 and 4 hours to complete. This is very much a bespoke design service and therefore has no set time limits per item. On this basis, an album containing 40 pages can typically take up to 4 weeks to complete. During the FREE consultation, we will estimate the number of pages required to complete your scrapbook and the time frame involved.

Design your own
Fancy decorating your own album but not sure of how to go about it? We take all the hard work out by handcrafting a 20 page 10″ x 7″ scrapbook album to your requirements, preparing the album layout, choosing appropriate colour schemes and cutting and mounting simple photo mounts and sections for you to add your own photos and words – all you have to do is fill it with photos and memories and add your own decorations.

DESIGN LED SCRAPBOOK ALBUMS

The design led Scrapbook pages, like all our products, are of the highest quality both in terms of design and the supplies that we use to create them. We pay close attention to detail, carefully reading through and looking at each and every contribution so that we fully understand the story being told and then translate this onto the page in our title and design work. We spend time selecting the right card, papers, fonts and embellishments to support each contribution, altogether producing a quality finished layout. We feel our pages and albums are worth every penny but don’t take our word for it - see what our clients have to say.

Organisation fee: If you have a large album in mind involving family and friends or are Group gifting an album and would like help getting organised – we can help you!

We can:

• Take over the organisation of your album for you.
• Contact all the contributors with full details of what to include, what to send and how to send it (no matter how far away they may be).
• Take delivery and store all the photos and memorabilia until the scrapbook album is complete and return the items back to the contributor directly.
• Keep you up to date with progress on a regular basis.
• Take away all the stress and hard work of organising everything
